In 2000, he won the Portrait Prize in the annual exhibition of the South Wales Art Society at Turner House, Penarth. The previous year, he won overall First Prize together with best acrylic, best portrait and best still life.
In addition he was chosen as the public’s choice in both the 1999 and 2000 Christmas Art Exhibitions at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, which is part of Cardiff County Council. He also exhibits regularly at the Washington gallery, Penarth.
In 2006 won first prize in the South Wales Art Society exhibition at the Taliesin Gallery, Swansea
He is a painting demonstrator for major art material suppliers e.g. Winsor & Newton, and regularly provides painting demonstrations to Art Societies throughout South Wales and Southern England.
He now runs weekly painting courses in the Taffs Well, Cardiff and tutors residential courses at Urchfont Manor, near Devizes, Wiltshire, The Hill Centre, Abergavenny, The Farncombe Estate in Broadway, Cotwolds, and The Boscombe Spa Hotel, Bournemouth.
This year, he tutored a painting holiday in the Algarve, Portugal and recently, a series of workshops in Dallas, Texas, USA. He will repeat the workshops in Dallas, Texas in September 2008 and also to tutor a painting holiday in Crete in May 2009. In addition, he will tutor painting on the cruise ships from November 2008
He has written three books on painting ( 2 watercolour and one acrylic) published by Search Press Ltd, some of which has also been translated into Italian, Dutch, Russian and Arabic. They are sold worldwide, (130,000 to date). A new book on watercolour will be published in 2008
Ten DVDs have been produce on his techniques in Watercolour and acrylics.
The subjects of his paintings vary from landscapes to still life, portraiture, abstracts etc in watercolours, oils, pastels and acrylics.
He tries to use good shapes and design combined with an emotional feeling for the subject utilising both light and colour. His courses combine quality teaching combined with good humour.
Currently, he is a Professional Associate of the Society of All Artists.
He was Chairman of the South Wales Art Society from 1999 - 2002.
For the last 16 years he has been a full time artist based at Cardiff
In his “spare time”, he enjoys his computer and jazz music.
His paintings are used each year for the Ty Hafen Children’s Hospice corporate Christmas card and in addition, regularly supports the British Heart Foundation and Shelter with paintings.
